Welcome to the World of Laura Targett

Laura Targett is a musician, singer, songwriter, and artist whose life is defined by her deep connection to music and creativity. With roots in Celtic and other folk traditions, classical training, and a love for global sounds, Laura’s artistry is a vibrant fusion of styles that transcends genres. Her unique voice, both literal and metaphorical, resonates with authenticity and emotion, making her a standout in every musical venture she dives into.

From an early age, Laura found her escape and expression in music. Growing up amidst the woodlands of England, she began playing the violin at the age of seven and started gigging as a teenager. This foundation paved the way for her rich and multidimensional career, spanning intimate solo performances, powerful collaborations, and stage appearances at major festivals worldwide.

"I’ve wept with anguish into my violin strings on stage and soloed best like that, I’ve levitated out of my body and looked down in amazement as the music played me."

Laura’s talent has seen her share stages with legendary artists, both Australian natives like Kerrianne Cox and Greg Sheehan, as well as global acts such as Delhi 2 Dublin (Canada), Seamus Begley (Ireland), and Flook (UK). Her repertoire is unmatched in its diversity, ranging from Irish traditional tunes to Middle Eastern wedding bands, Flamenco, Balkan, and electronic fusion projects. With a natural ability to adapt her style and an undeniable flair for live performance, Laura breathes life into every note she plays.

Her accomplishments are many, including awards for her compositions and performances, features on highly regarded albums, and a debut solo album, Fragile, which reached the MusicOz Awards finals. Laura is currently working on her second album as a singer-songwriter with producer Luke Plumb and is set to release a much-anticipated fiddle album in 2025, recorded at the iconic Tpot Studios in Scotland with a host of celebrated musicians.

Beyond her personal achievements, Laura is a passionate advocate for making live acoustic music accessible to all. She leads community music projects and works as a sought-after violin teacher and workshop leader, inspiring others with her expertise and enthusiasm for traditional fiddle styles.

Creativity fuels every aspect of Laura's life, whether she’s painting, sketching, or composing melodies on the margins of bills and receipts. Her art is as much about her humanity as it is about sound and color. Her philosophy of creating despite the chaos of life reflects in her words, "Music and art are threads woven through the tapestry of my days, keeping me sane, reminding me of who I am."

Laura Targett’s story is one of raw talent, perpetual growth, and emotional connection. To experience her world is to be reminded of the boundless possibilities of music and the indomitable spirit of an artist devoted to her craft.
